Folks had a hot time at the 71st annual Sioux Empire Fair at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls.

Fairgoers felt the heat with temperatures in the 90's. Shade from tents provided solace from the sun. -
Kristi Noem, Stephanie Herseth Sandlin and B. Thomas Marking answered questions during a congressional candidate forum held by the League of Women Voters. -
An AMHR miniature horse show was held with horses standing no taller than 38". Here a horse demonstrates the event of Combined Driving. -
Miss South Dakota USA Emily Miller made an appearance on Wednesday with Kelly Wismer, the newly crowned Miss Sioux Empire Fair. -
Purple-awarded ducks looked off in the distance of the 4-H poultry exhibit. -
Farm and city kids alike enjoy the fair as a last summer hurrah before going back to school. Many South Dakota schools will commence the third week in August. -
Award winning baked goods tempted passersby. A "Bake for the Cure" contest was held to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Entries are judged on flavor, presentation and texture.
