Our state capitol is always a welcoming place, but never more so than in the holiday season when South Dakotans come from afar to enjoy the Christmas spirit in the marbled halls and rotunda. Photos by Bernie Hunhoff.

Nearly 100 trees are decorated by schools, churches, cities and civic groups from all across South Dakota. -
The capitol workers take a personal interest in sprucing up the old capitol building for visiting families. -
Children should know that Gen. William Beadle, immortalized in marble in the east hallway on second floor, championed school funding in South Dakota. -
Rowdy Menning posed for mom's camera. The capitol is a perfect place to take pictures for holiday greeting cards. -
Santa Claus spends a lot of time answering letters in a little office provided by the Pioneer Museum in Murdo. -
The blend of beautiful architecture with glittering symbols of the holiday season even add a sparkle to the eye of Pierre's most jaded lobbyists and lawmakers.
