Meeker Ranch Paint Out
Sep 17, 2008
South Dakota's artists have quickly adapted to the Plein Aire Paint Outs now popular in South Dakota.
-
Twenty-eight painters participated in the paintout at the Meeker Ranch near Custer last week, including Tim Peterson who worked in pastels.
-
Sandra Newman used oil paints to capture her view of the ranch. Proceeds from the sales were donated to preserve the historic Meeker Ranch, which is owned by the National Forest Service.
-
Rich Yusten seemed right at home as he painted the rural landscape. The event was coordinated by artist Jon Crane and the Blue Dog Gallery in Lead.
-
Paul Jones paints, with Jan Sohl in the distance. For more pictures visit Jon Crane's website, meekerranch.net.
-
Mick Harrison worked on an oil painting of the Meeker barn.
-
Jill Tesnow worked in the rain on a watercolor. The Custer paintout (Sept. 10-14) began with clouds and drizzle, but soon cleared.
-
James VanNuys put finishing touches on an acrylic just in time for the wet sale on Sunday at the Grace Coolidge Memorial Log Building in Custer.
-
Angela Marie Poches concentrated on a preliminary sketch, working in the tall mountain grasses that surround the ranch. Altogether, more than $3,100 was raised for the ranch, according to Jon Crane.
