Menno Pioneer Power Show
Sep 26, 2011
The little Hutchinson County town of Menno held its 25th annual Power Show last weekend. Photos by Bernie Hunhoff.
-
Glorious autumn weather mixed with the music, foods, antique machinery, exhibits and games, delighting the thousands who came to the pioneer town that has been constructed over the years.
-
Many "country" collections are exhibited at the power show, including a huge wall of seed corn caps. But if you liked farmers' caps, all you had to do was gaze at the crowd.
-
Youngsters loved the old automobiles for all sorts of reasons. The shiny chrome on an old Plymouth fascinated this little fellow.
-
The Menno Power Show has grown to become a celebration of our rural culture — the colors, the work ethic, the history and the fun.
-
A 65-horse Case steam tractor — as big as a small house — intrigued this threesome.
-
"See the rock tumbling in there?" asked the men who exhibited a stone ground flour mill.
-
Parades of old tractors, trucks and autos delighted the audience on both Saturday and Sunday.
-
Most of the exhibits are old enough for Social Security, but three of the Ulmer family's revved-up racing tractors were also on display.
-
Here's a weather-vane horse's vantage point of the parade down the pioneer town's main street.
-
South Dakota's agricultural history is romantic, picturesque and even artistic. It's just hard to remember all that when you're loading silage or throwing bales.
-
A colorful exhibit of an 1850s' era "ladder and hook" horse-drawn fire truck drew lots of attention in Menno.

My parents, aunts and uncles happened by this town during
Their centennial years ago. They were able to see a book
Written for the centennial and inside the front cover was a
Picture of my grandma Hazel Fiske and her sister, the first
Two to teach there. We have tried to find this book or a copy of the
Story but have had no luck. There were no copies of the book left
To purchase. Thought I would take a shot on the dark and
and see if you could help us out. Thank you
