-
Sandy Easterling, circulation department, chose this photo of Custer County Search and Rescue by Paul Horsted. "Out in the Black Hills, where you'll find everything from hiking, hunting, snowmobiles, motorcycles, rock climbers, sunny days, blizzards and forest fires, you never know when someone will need help. It is wonderful that people will come together to be there in times of crisis and need.”
-
Renee Becker, circulation department, chose our cover photo by Bernie Hunhoff. “I love the bull's coloring and how he crossed his back legs just like a Hollywood star would pose for a photo shoot. He was prepared to get his picture taken."
-
"My favorite might be Nils Boe serving baked beans on page 80,” says assistant marketing director Laura Johnson Andrews. "Only a Norwegian bachelor could wear that hat without embarrassment.” Photo courtesy Center for Western Studies, Augustana University.
-
Co-publisher Heidi Marsh chose this photo from Custer State Park. "I love it — mainly because the mom in me is saying, ‘His mom is going to be furious when he gets home!’” Photo by Harlan Humphrey.
-
"Lots of excellent photography in this issue, but the one I can't get out of my mind is the whistling prairie dog on page 45,” says Paul Higbee, contributing editor. "If it's possible for a prairie dog to display true personality, this guy has it. If, as some animal behaviorists say, humans read ‘personality' into creatures, this photo explains why we do so.” Photo by Dick Kettlewell.
-
Contributing editor Roger Holtzmann chose this photo of sparring prairie chickens by Harlan Humphrey. "I can only imagine how much patience waiting in the snow it took to get that shot.”
-
John Andrews, managing editor, chose this photo of former governor Nils Boe with his dog, Beagle Boe. Photo courtesy Center for Western Studies, Augustana University.

Ruth Steil, administrative assistant, chose this photo of trumpeter swans at Lacreek National Wildlife Refuge near Martin. Photo by Christian Begeman.
