‘Small Farms, Big Ideas’ Tour 3

Join fellow growers for an immersive, one-day bus tour through Central South Dakota to explore the systems and technologies making local specialty farms more efficient and climate-resilient. S.D. Specialty Producers Association (SDSPA) encourages farmers, resource providers, and others interested in agriculture to attend this circuit tour of operations near Miller, Frankfort and Clark, S.D.

During SDSPA’s final “Small Farms, Big Ideas: Summer Farm Tour”, participants will see producers interested in maximizing farm resilience by using technology, regenerative practices, value-added production, and specialized production techniques. Farm stops include:

  • Stop 1: Value-added herbs, commercial kitchen processes: Farm Mom Phenom in Miller, SD (Kelly Johnson)
  • Stop 2: Water catchment, starting transplants, wifi-connected soil sensors & temperature monitoring: Lillow’s Acres in Frankfort, SD (Dennis & Traci Clemens)
  • Stop 3: Composting, regenerative no-till gardening, USDA-NRCS rainfall simulator: Thunder Mountain Garden in Clark, SD (Shane Jordan)

Your $16 registration includes all-day bus transportation, a catered sack lunch, and refreshments at our farm stops. This tour will board at Foreman Bus Company, in Miller, SD. Click the button below for registration information. The last day to register is July 22nd.

Guests should wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather.  Participants should be able to walk on uneven outdoor terrain. Please contact us if you have any mobility needs.

This program has been funded under a Conservation Collaboration Cooperative Agreement between the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and SDSPA, to promote sustainable agriculture practices and environmental stewardship.
