Spring Has Sprung

We received these spring photos from readers Sandy and Wayne Freeman.

The photos were taken last year near their home in the Coteau Hills area. -
Sandy and Wayne were delighted to capture eleven painted turtles sunning themselves in a slough north of Fort Sisseton. -
A ruby-throated hummingbird dines on nectar in a flower garden. -
The ruby-throated hummingbird is the only hummingbird commonly found in the eastern half of South Dakota. -
This fawn was spotted in an alfalfa field just west of the Freeman's home. -
A Swainson's hawk tucks one foot into it's feathers for warmth. The Swainson's hawk's preference for prairie and scattered trees makes them more common in the western part of the state.
